My Autumn TV Picks

Autumn is probably the greatest time of year for TV. New pilots are launched, seasons return... and we generally want to stay in and cuddle up more because it's raining once again and a bit bloomin' chilly!

Current Beauty Favourites

When I started this blog (previously A Yellow Brick Blog) back in 2013 I talked about make-up a lot. Probably 85% of my content was talking cosmetics whether it be favourites, hauls or a review. I lived for it and spent so much money on tying out the latest releases, top trends and recommendations from other bloggers to feed my addiction!

Over the last couple of years this has slowly faded away, not only do I not really have the budget to be buying new products every single week but I have also become a creature of habit and once I've found a few products that work for me I will use them religiosuly until they are empty!
So I wanted to share with you all some of my FAVS right now that I have been using constantly!
Stila Heaven's Hue Highlighter - Kitten
Highlighters are my thang! I have been obsessed with using highlighting products since I tried out a cream highlight from (maybe) Illamasqua  back in 2008/2009! I have bought countless different powders, liquid and creams over the last 8 or so years and this new release from Stila is up there with my favourites!
Kitten is such a classic shade from Stila and this version of the Heaven's Hue is the perfect finishing touch to any make-up look! I used to use the highlight from my Charlotte Tilbury contour kit everyday but I've now switched to use this on my cheekbones, down my nose and under my eyebrows! If you get the chance to check out the Heaven's Hue Hilighters.... do it!

Beauty Blender Sponge
Well.... I'm not too sure how I actually lived without this. I swore by using a buffing brush to put on my Facebook .... until I discovered a damp beauty blender! This is now the only way I apply my foundation and concealers, game changer!

Maybelline Fit Me Concealer
This was actually an influenced purchase... I haven't had one of those in a while! I had finished my with my Age Rewind Concealer (I think that's what it's called) from Maybelline and as the Fit Me was on offer and I had seen Brittney Saunders using it in her videos I thought I would give it a go! This is the perfect 'wake up' for my skin. It brightens up my eye area and transforms my tired face immediately! Where it has been so hot recently some days I have just been wearing this without foundation to brighten my skin and get rid of any fatigue on my tired-ass face!

Make Up Forever HD Foundation
I must say this has been in my make-up collection for a long while now BUT it can only come out to play when I have a tan! The shade I have is way too dark for my natural skin colour but when I have fake tanned, this mixed with a bit of my darker True Match foundation is amazing! Such incredible coverage and perfect for a night out.... it was also my go-to for the IOW Festival earlier this month!

Nivea Daily Express Hydration Primer
*Holy grail alert* - this is my favourite skincare product to use every single morning. Once I've washed my face in the shower and used a toner I pop on this super light primer moisturiser to melt into my skin before I start my make-up routine. It feels fab and my skin just loves it, I'm not one for thick cream on my face so this formula is perfect, plus it feels really refreshing - I highly recommend giving it a go, especially throughout the summer!

Rosie For Autograph Eyeshadow Quad - I Feel Like A Million Dollars
I'm a sucker for nudes, bronzes and general neutrals when it comes to eyeshadows. I love my Naked palette from Urban Decay but this has actually been my go-to for the last few months. The whole Rosie range is super pigmented and fantastic quality!

Blank Canvas F33 Extreme Contour Brush*
I was sent this brush to try from Black Canvas a few weeks ago and I think I've probably used it every time I put on make-up. It is the perfect brush for applying my Charlotte Tilbury contour powder, definitely an everyday product for me now!

Zoeva 317 Wing Liner Brush
The perfect brush for applying eyebrow powder. That is all.

Summer Body Essentials

Summer 2017 has HIT the UK and for once I (nearly) feel ready!
As someone who has never been overly body confident, Summer can be a bit of daunting premise for me....... and my thighs! 99% of the time my legs are pale, hairy and severely un-ready to see the light of day, especially in public, so when warm weather approaches I like to prep like a pro to ensure I'm not caught out when it comes to baring all!

As I was just at the Isle Of Wight Festival earlier this month I had already started my summer body ritual before this crazy (yes I'm melting) heatwave began. It's only a few extra products to add into my daily/weekly routines but they really are life savers.

1. NSPA Coconut Daily Refresh Shower Scrub*
First things first, before all that tanning and creaming malarkey I need my skin to be fresh, clean and smooth - so a body scrub is a must.
This creamy daily scrub from NSPA at ASDA smells bloomin' incredible - if you have read my blog for a while you will know that scents are a big thing for me. If a product doesn't smell good, I wouldn't and won't purchase it or use it. Coconut is one of my all-time favourite scents for products too so this is a winner.
I use this a few of times a week all over my body to prep my skin for fake tanning (or to get old fake tan off) and for only £2... yes £2 - it is WELL worth it!

2. St. Moriz Advanced Pro Formula Tanning Mousse*
All hail my all-time favourite tan.
St. Moriz has been in my life for years now and I totally swear by this brand. They were kind enough to send me a bottle of their new advanced pro formula to keep me going this month/Summer. This is the medium shade which I like to layer on for a few nights before I have an event, super easy to use I just use a mitt to apply all over before I go to bed and then wash it off in the morning. It gives a super natural and long-lasting colour (my mum even commented on it last week!) plus right now you can win a trip to Miami with St. Moriz's Baywatch comp right - here. (Totally non-spon... I just really love them)

3. Bondi Sands Everyday Tanning Milk
Gradual everyday tanners have been in our life since the early 00s when Dove & Johnson's bought out their famous moisturisers - which, if you didn't use, were pretty life changing.
My high school years are a blur of me covered in this stuff thinking I was super sassy... but clearly not sassy enough to use real fake tan. I'm a big Bondi Sands fan and their products are up there with St. Moriz for me, I love the scent and the shade is always really natural looking. This is the perfect product for me to use to keep my skin moisturised plus keep my tan long-lasting and topped up.

4. Tropic Mineral Sun Protection*
Sun cream. The number one product everyone should be using in this weather.
My skin, unfortunately, does have a slight problem with some sun creams. As I am a sufferer of the dreaded heat rash I can only use sun creams that are non-pore blocking which believe me... aren't that common!
I usually use Boots Soltan Sensitive cream which is a god send for me but when Tropic asked if I'd like to give their Skin Shade Mineral Sun Protection and I read it wouldn't block pores I jumped at the chance!
I chose the 30SPF as 15 didn't feel enough for me and my sensitive skin and 50 felt unnecessary for me on the IOW! I've been loving this suncream and so far... no heat rash wahooo!

What are your favourite products to keep you increase your body confidence leading up to the Summer months?

Lifestyle Book Haul

As you may have seen in one of posts recently - lifestyle books are something I am starting to invest in alot more.
From health and fitness to positive thoughts, mindfulness and goal setting - there really is a book out there to help you with anything.
I find it so motivating and helpful to have something on my bedside table to dip in and out of and I think it's not going to be long until I need to buy another bookcase for my home!

When I wrote my recent post (here) I asked if anyone had any book recommendations. Of course you awesome lovelies sent me some fab suggestions which sounded right up my street so ...... I went ahead and ordered some!

First of all was a suggestion from the lovely Emma (Owls and Stags) - with Reasons To Stay Alive by Matt Haig.
She told me it was amazing for anxiety and staying calm, which I struggle with alot and with it being less than £4 on Amazon I couldn't NOT try it out.

On first looks I was a little scared, it all seemed very much orientated about depression which is a deep, deep subject - but the reviews and comments I keep seeing everywhere seem to portray that this is an incredible book for anyone to read for a positive outlook on life.
I'm really looking forward to getting stuck in.

Next was a book that I cannot believe I hadn't heard of before, it sounds like it was made for me! I am a super messy person. I cannot help it, I always have been .... but hopefully won't always be.
I know how much better I feel in myself when everything in my life is tidy - from home to work to even my handbag, it's so much calming when everything is in order and neat. (I'm just a bit pants at it sometimes.)
This book was recommend by Steph (Nourish Me Clean) and as soon as I heard the title - The Life-Changing Magic Of Tidying - I knew I had to try it out.
I'm actually SO excited to read this.... I need all the tips I can get! I feel like I need to de-clutter my home from top to bottom and start again with everything in tip-top-tidy condition! Have any of you read this?
The third book I bought recently was one that had been in my saved items/wishlist on Amazon for months. Kate Hudson's - Pretty Happy.
'Healthy Ways To Love Your Body' is the tagline and something which I need to hear. I'm always in a constant battle with how I feel about myself and this book is said to be a fantastic guide to confidence and everyday all round happiness with yourself.

I've had a good flick through of this and it all looks amazing - so many different sections and amazing focus on the 4 main pillars to focus on to achieve a balanced, healthy life. There's also great places to fill out your own thoughts and personal details - an amazing book for travelling with.

Anymore books recommendations? Keep them coming! I'm sure over time I'll review these books in full - is there are any you would really love me to talk about then just let me know :)

What I'm Watching & Reading #1

I've been wanting to start a new series of posts on A Yellow Brick Blog for a while now, I love doing my "This Week I'm Loving..." posts but sometimes I do think I'm loving the same things for a week or too so they aren't needed weekly... as that would be super boring!
I came up with this idea last week and have been really looking forward to writing it! What I'm Watching & Reading is going to be a new series of posts highlighting certain blogs and vlogs that I have been loving! Sharing specific channels, videos, posts and sites - I want to share the love and let YOU know who I've been obsessing over.

As a huge fan of youtube and the blogging world I am near enough always online when not at work and just love finding new people to watch and read!

I might just share certain people and their work, or maybe even a type of video that I've been watching alot of - either way hopefully YOU can find new vlogs and blogs to enjoy!

First up I'm going to talk YouTube. I have been totally obsessed recently with watching peoples "My Tattoos" videos! I find them soooo interesting! I love seeing what other people have chosen to get and their reasons and explanations about them.
I spotted InTheFrow (one of my blogging FAVS!) had uploaded hers and from there that was it - I couldn't stop watching them!
My 4 favourites had to be InTheFrow (Victoria), Helen Anderson, Katie Snooks and a new youtuber to me, who I found through this, called Tasha Leelyn (who's videos I've fallen in love with!). These girls have amazing channels - Helen's personality makes me laugh out loud she is brilliant! I highly recommend them .... especially if you're a nosey tattoo person like me! (although I haven't actually got any...... yet! These videos have seriously spurred me on to stop being a wimp and go and get one)
Channels : Victoria | Helen | Katie | Tasha

Now onto blogs! I thought I'd share 4 blog posts that have stuck out to me over the last few weeks. Ones that I really enjoyed reading and want to share with you guys!
First is from Aspiring Londoner aka Farzana! This was actually the first post I had read from her blog and found it via one of the Twitter chats.
"3 Essential Steps To Improve Your Blog Photography" - I mean it had me sold from the title, I am always looking to improve my photos on here. I own a DSLR but am still trying to get my head around it and don't always get the results I'm looking for with it no matter how much I fiddle! The £1 marble background idea is awesome!

Next is from one of my favourite bloggers ever - Couture Girl aka Kayleigh! She recently had a total hair make-over from Catherine Boden and shared her whole experience in THIS blog post! I think her hair looks incredible, the colour and dimension she's been given is perfection.... makes me miss my long hair!

Another one of my favourite bloggers now - ReallyRee
My favourite blog post this MONTH has to be her interview with Paris Hilton. Yes I am 100% green with envy even thinking about it but it was amazing to read such a natural and fun interview without heading to my local newsagents! Paris has been a total idol to me since I was a teenager - I just adore her and think she is one of the smartest women in the world! Read the interview - here.

Last but not least is a blog post all about.... blogging!
"The World Of Blogging Nobody Sees" is a post recently uploading my the total amazing Gracie from TheUglyFaceOfBeauty. (you may know this beauty from youtube.... but did you know she has a blog too?!)
This post is all about those things not everybody knows about blogging..... and some stuff even I didn't know either! I love Gracie's honesty, this post is a must read!

26 TV Shows You Should All Watch

My name is Kirstie and I am a TV addict.

Yes, show after show, episode after episode - I'm a huge lover of TV and the amount of shows I have become addicted too is a little worrying. (although after speaking to so many of you on twitter over time I've realise I'm not the only one!)

After the love I got for my movie recommendations posts and having so many of you asking for a TV version I thought I would do it - in one big post... 26 of my favourite shows, ever.
Now some of these may be obvious to you - you might think ... ummm.... everyone watches that Kirstie but I'm going to share other shows too that may not be so well known!
1. Buffy The Vampire Slayer
You may know this already but this is my favourite TV show ever. I've been obsessed since I was 7 when it started! I have watched every episode countless times and got probably speak most of them word for word! The original (and best) vampire/fantasy show, Joss Whedon is a total genius... and there's some major eye candy!

2. Angel

Well.... I couldn't have Buffy and not Angel! The spin-off show which starts after Angel's departure at the end of Season 3 of Buffy. Another amazing show from Joss with fab cross overs and some friendly faces gracing the awesome cast!

3. Ringer

Sarah Michelle Gellar alert - again! This is one of the shows that I'm still so so sad that they cancelled after just one season! Sarah plays twins, the ex-addict/stripper Bridget who is meant to be a witness to crime and the queen of the upper east side Siobhan. When Siobhan 'kills herself' Bridget steals her identity to hide from her own troubled life but finds out S isn't as innocent as she thought.
4. Pretty Little Liars
Basically a cross between Gossip Girl & Desperate Housewvies (which both are obviously mentioned in this post) 4 friends are torn apart by a mystery 'A' who knows all their secrets, all they are trying to do is find out what happened to their best friend Ali who disappeared! This is hands down my favourite show at the moment, the amount of twists is insane - I literally have no idea whats going to happen next! Warning : major hair envy will occur whilst watching this show.

5. The Following

Not one for the faint hearted now. A serial killer and his newly formed cult cause havoc around the east coast of the US! Kevin Bacon plays detective Ryan Hardy who is trying to bring Joe Carroll and his evil followers down! This is such a good thriller drama, not that scary as I can wath it alone but very tense... and a tad gory!

6. Ru Paul's Drag Race

You may remember this being in one of my monthly favourites posts this year. I was recommended this by a friend so I started watching it on Netflix, I instantly became addicted and bascially watched seasons 1-5 in a couple of weeks! It's like America's Next Top Model but for drag queens and it is bloody hilarious!
7. The Vampire Diaries
Being such a huge Buffy fan I had always been a bit dubious about other vampire teen-type dramas! BUT this show turned my opinions around! I remember starting watching this when it started on ITV back in like 2009! Immediately fell in love with the gorgeous Salvatore hunks aswell as Nina Dobrev's amazing acting! The storylines are awesome with some great twists in each and every seasons so far! Cannot wait for the new epidoes to start this Autumn!

8. The Originals

Quque another spin-off series! Focusing on a certain family from TVD, The Originals is set in New Orleans and is on par with TVD for me! Plus the Michaelson brothers are hot.

9. Orange Is The New Black

If you haven't started watching this yet then shame on you! Piper is going to jail..... for a crime she did 10 years ago, she not your usual jail house chick and there's alot in store for her........ this is so so funny/shocking, I guarantee you'll binge watch it in a matter of days! (and how much does she look like Katy Perry with blonde hair!!!)

10. Once Upon A Time

Fairytales, Disney princesses and evil queens all in one TV show... need I say more? If you are anything like me this will be right up your street!
11. The Secret Circle
Another show that I'm still sad The CW cancelled. A coven of witches is completed when Cassie moves to a new town to live with her Grandma after her Mum is tragically killed! I loved this show and if you watch TVD/The Originals you'll recognise the bitch of the show Faye as Hayley the werewolf!!

12. The Simple Life

The show that made my life complete as a teenager. This 'reality' TV show of Paris & Nicole still makes me laugh out loud no matter how many times I watch it! I love these girls.

13. Laguna Beach/The Hills
I'm sure most of you girlys have watch The Hills... but have you seen Laguna  Beach aswell? Where it all began for LC, Kristen and most of the others! I love both of these, the real original of this type of reality TV show! We all know the last few seasons were a tad set up and the ending is brilliant but I still love it so so much! "What did I do?" "You know what you did!!!"

14. Girls Of The Playboy Mansion

A reality show watching the lives of Hugh Hefner's girlfriends? Could I love a show anymore? The original 3 Holly, Kendra & Bridget will always have a special place in my heart, this show is crazy - the way they live is just insane, an amazing look into how the other half live!

15. Long Island Medium

I've only just discovered this on US Netflix but I have become a crazy fangirl literally like overnight.  Thersea Caputo is a medium, who lives in Long Island - duh! (This is a reality show btw!) If your a skeptic - watch it! Even though the show has it sad moments.... it has hilarious ones too - I love the Caputo family!

16. Glee
Singing + massive lols. Glee is so show that I instantly fell in love with. The script, the characters, the music - all totally up my street! I still rock out to the songs from Glee all the time... I'm so behind on the episodes though I need a good old weekend marathon!

17. American Horror Story

A scary one now! I watch this with my boyfriend, although I think I could brave it on my own! The same cast each seaosn BUT totally different stories and characters each season - I love it! Season 1 is Murder House, Season 2 Asylum and Season 3 Coven! I love them all - Asylum is probably my favourite though! Plus Emma Roberts is in Season 3 ... I love her!
18. 90210
Queue being jealous of other peoples lives. High school drama set in Beverly Hills - fabulous! I love easy to watch shows like this..... and even though its 'teen' show I love it - it's not like any of the actors are teens anyway! Favourite character? Probably Naomi!

19. Gossip Girl

Oh wait is that another show in which you will sit and get jealous of the charcters and their fabulous lives? Yes! But this time on the other coast! NYC & the upper east side is home to the fabulous Blair, Serena and all their merry men! GG is an online site revealing all the latest news, gossip and secrets about the popular kids...but who is it?!!? (#Chair for life!)

20. Desperate Housewives

A comedy, drama and mystery show all in one! Each season is fantastic and I can honestly say it makes me laugh out loud ... alot! Major love for the housewives and all their crazy, scary and shocking adventures!

21. Modern Family

One of the funniest shows on TV. Ever. This 'mocumentary' show follows an unconventional family and their day-t0-day lives. I urge you to go and watch this right now, I first saw this whilst on a plane and actually had to control myself as I kept laughing so loud! My favourite character has to be Cam, although it's a bit like friends - it's hard to choose a favourite!

22. Breaking Bad

Probably THE most talked about show for the past couple of years! I was totally and utterly hooked on this from episode 1 and was actually devastated when it ended! To sum it up pretty quickly Walt, a genius chemistry teacher and Jesse, a former pupil and drop out, are making meth and it's popular. But the story that unfolds will keep you on the edge of you seat and watching through your fingers... I'm saying no more!

23. Toddlers & Tiaras

This show will gobsmack you. Dramatic toddlers and pre-Madonna divas, do you agree with it?

24. Catfish

Catfish the movie was his story, Catfish the TV show is everyone elses. People in online relationships for years but never met and never even seen each other on screen? 9 times out of 10 all is not what it seems..... alot of shockers and alot of angry heartbroken people!

25. Lost

The show with more twists and turns than a game of Twister! Some may say it is slightly farfetched but I couldn't care less... I love it and everytime I watch it I notice even more... there's jsut so much going on it make my brain hurt! This show will blow your mind with it's storylines and theories!

26. Summer Heights High
Saving one of the best til' last! Chris Liley is a genius and I love every single on of his shows but my favourite has to be Summer Heights High. After 7 years this still makes me and my friends laugh uncontrollably and even just one quote can set me off! Mr. G is of coure my favourite - go and watch it now!!!

So there we have it 26 of my favourite TV shows (I forgot Will & Grace... I LOVE Will & Grace.. and Misfits, oh god and Friends - those shows are amazing!)....
Have you seen any of these? What are your favourite shows?

Kirstie's Movie Recommendations #2

I'm so glad you all liked the first movie recommendations post - after reading all your comments I'm back with #2! Another 5 movie's which I LOVE and think you guys should check out! (There will be TV Show & Book recommendations coming soon :)
1. Looper
Bruce Willis AND Joseph Gordon-Levitt in one movie.... playing one person. Yup - amazeballs! I loved this movie so much - so clever, I love a good crime/futuristic thriller that make you think! So many twists and turns you really have to pat attention! This would take forever to explain via this one little blog post so just go and get it and watch.... like now!

2. The Social Climber
Also known as Confessions Of A Sociopathic Social Climber.I randomly stumbled across this movie back in the days of Woolworths. It was only £2 for this and another film so I picked them up and found a gem. A light-hearted romantic comedy about a girl who takes the phrase 'fake it til you make it' to the next level and will stop at nothing to pursue her dream of being at the top.
3. Silver Linings Playbook
Anything with J-law in is a winner really isn't it? Add a bit of Bradley Cooper and literally nothing can go wrong! The acting in this is incredible (she got an oscar... duh!) and the story is powerful and emotional - so much love for this, it will make you smile, laugh and cry, great for a girly night in!

4. In Time
Justin Timberlake and Amanda Seyfried in a movie where time has replaced all types of currency ... amazing right? Such an awesome concept, 4 minutes for a cup of coffee, minutes for the bus journey home....this action movie is a race against the clock where every minute counts.... and JT is some awesome action eye candy.

5. Due Date
Massive LOLs alert. Seriously this movie makes me laugh every single time. Robert Downey Junior and Zach Galifanakis become unlikely road trip buddies, I honestly find this funnier than The Hangover and it has a french bulldog called Sonny in it... my fav!

Kirstie's Movie Recommendations #1

I've been thinking about doing a post like this for a little while! It's not beauty or fashion related but more or less everyone loves a good movie and I'm a major movie lover and cinema addict!
I have a major passion for films and always have done since I was a kid so I thought why not share with you a few favs of mine and maybe introduce you to some new titles that you may never heard of ..... or we can just completely bond over the love certain films!
FYI.. I obviously won't be including any spoilers here and if this is a hit I'll be doing more... as my list of favourite movie's is endless!

1. Heartbreakers
A movie which I always recommend to my friends - such a fun and hilarious chick flick from 2001 about a mother and daughter con artist duo! If you love comedys and a good con artist movie you will love this! Max (Sigourney Weaver)  marries rich men and then gets her daughter Page (Jennifer Love Hewitt) to seduce them somehow - catching them in the act and reaping huge divorce settlements in the process! They decided to one do one last sting and head to Palm Beach Florida in search of the richest man they can find!
I seriously love this movie - too me it never gets old! Warning : You will get serious body envy of JLH.

2. A Little Princess
One of those movies that makes me cry every.single.time. Yes this is a "kids" movie but I think anyone can enjoy this. Rich little Sara is sent from her home in India to a boarding school in New York when her Dad is called to war. When her father is pronouced missing and Sara's tutuion money stops the strict head of the school Miss. Minchin turns the tables on Sara and she is banished to live with the help.
Honestly one of my favourite movies which will makes you both beam ear to ear and cry your little eyes out, go and watch it now!

3. She's All That
A total early 00s classic, I think I watched this on repeat as a 13 year old! I loved this era of teen movie's as I'm sure if you did too if you are around my age! Zack the future prom king and total heartthrob of the school is dumped by the most popular (and bitchy) girl - Taylor Vaughn and therefore heartbroken/pissed.  Zack then bets his best friend Dean that he can take any girl and turn her into a potential prom queen, Dean chooses  Laney Boggs a totally unpopular, art freak who couldn't care less about being in the spotlight.
I seriously love his film, I think I can probably speak it word for word...... "I wanna be like Mike."! (p.s. look out for Usher!)

4. The Help
One of my favourite movie's of all time - I feel like I could watch this and then when it finishes watch it again straight after. This best selling book is bought to life by an incredible cast of some of my favourite actress' including the awesome Emma Stone! Set in the south of the US in the 60s this book is all about the life of the upper class and their black maids aka The Help. This movie is both heartbreaking and hilarious - I don't want to say anymore about it as I just think you should go and watch it now!

5. Drop Dead Gorgeous
Lastly we've got Drop Dead Gorgeous! With a cast of faces you are bound to recognise (including Kirsten Dunst, Kirstie Alley, Brittany Murphy and Amy Adams) this movie focuses on the Mount Rose teen beauty pageant and the process the girls go through in their bid to winning and getting through to the national competition.
Filmed like a documentary this movie is hilarious and shows that some people will do anything to win, with lots of twists you probably won't be expecting this was permantly in my video player for months as a teenager!

So then..... have you seen any of these? You must have right? If not then get to Netflix, Amazon or HMV right now and have a watch!
Please let me know if you enjoy this sort of post and I will carry on and share more of my recommendations with you - maybe even TV series and books too, what do you want to see?
